10-Day Hridaya Silent Meditation Retreat in Romania
A deep immersion in the Spiritual Heart
Ten days are not simply more days of meditation. Time itself becomes part of the practice.
During the first days, the body and mind begin to settle into a new rhythm. As Silence deepens, habitual patterns, reactions, and mechanisms of identification may become more visible. Gradually, meditation can shift from something we are trying to do toward a more intimate resting in Awareness itself.
The 10-Day Hridaya Silent Meditation Retreat offers a complete introduction to Hridaya Meditation and, at the same time, enough space for experienced practitioners to go much deeper.
We practice in order to recognize what practice cannot create: the quiet Awareness that is already here.
Offer yourself the gift of Silence
For ten days, the usual demands of daily life are simplified. Speech stops. Phones and unnecessary media are put aside. The rhythm of the day is organized around meditation, Hridaya Hatha Yoga, contemplative teachings, rest, and simple daily needs.
This simplicity is not an end in itself. It creates favorable conditions for Self-Inquiry — for allowing the question “Who am I?” to move from an intellectual question toward a direct inner orientation.
The retreat is an invitation to discover the Spiritual Heart not as an idea, but as the intimate center of Stillness, Awareness, and Love from which experience is known.
Why ten days?
A short retreat can open a door. Ten days allow us to remain long enough for the first enthusiasm, resistance, restlessness, clarity, fatigue, and inspiration to be included in the same field of practice.
This continuity is one of the great gifts of the retreat. We stop measuring meditation only by whether a particular session felt peaceful. Instead, the entire movement of experience becomes material for recognition.
The 10-Day Retreat is therefore the foundational Hridaya retreat: long enough for the teachings to move from understanding toward experience, and from experience toward integration.

What may unfold
A retreat is not a promise of a particular mystical experience. Some periods may feel peaceful and luminous; others may reveal restlessness, resistance, emotion, fatigue, or old patterns of thought.
All of these can become part of practice when they are met with awareness rather than immediate identification.
At times, participants may experience greater clarity, openness, intimacy with Being, love, timelessness, or a sense of unity. These are possibilities, not goals to reproduce. The deeper orientation is toward recognizing the Awareness in which every experience appears and disappears.
For beginners and experienced meditators
No previous meditation experience is required. The retreat offers clear guidance and builds gradually.
For experienced practitioners, the same structure allows a deeper exploration of Self-Inquiry, subtle attention, the Witnessing Attitude, and the relationship between Silence and ordinary life.
Who leads the retreat?
The Hridaya Silent Meditation Retreat was created by Sahajananda, founder of Hridaya Yoga. English retreats in Romania may be led by Sahajananda or by experienced Hridaya teachers. The teacher is always named with the dates of that particular retreat.

Is attendance at the orientation session mandatory?
Yes. The orientation explains the retreat guidelines and the practical details. Please plan your travel so that you can attend the full orientation on the day before the retreat begins.
Can I work remotely during the retreat?
No. To preserve the inner process, the retreat should be treated as a real retreat from ordinary professional and social activity.
Do I have to be Hindu or follow a particular religion?
No. The retreat draws from several contemplative traditions but does not require a religious identity or belief system.
Can I leave early?
The retreat is designed as a complete ten-day process. If you know in advance that you only have three days, choose the 3-Day Retreat instead. For emergencies during the retreat, the coordination team will assist you.
Ten days of Silence. One essential question.
The retreat asks little of you outwardly, and everything inwardly: to stay, to listen, and to let the question “Who am I?” live its own life.
