Hridaya Romania – Kamala Center
In the quiet village of Sânpetru, close to the Carpathian Mountains, in the heart of Transylvania, there is a place dedicated to Stillness, Self-Inquiry, and the awakening of the Heart.
Hridaya Romania, known locally as Kamala Center, has been sharing the Hridaya teachings since 2007. Surrounded by the beauty of the Dealul Lempeș Nature Reserve, with its rare wildflowers and the birds that soar high above it, the center offers a setting that naturally supports contemplation and inner exploration.
We offer silent meditation retreats, Hridaya Hatha Yoga, teacher training courses, seminars, and regular yoga and meditation classes. You are invited to rediscover the beauty of the Spiritual Heart and the silent Presence within. At Hridaya Romania you will find a welcoming environment, supported by yoga teachers with more than 40 years of experience.
All are welcome to join us and to discover the depth of yoga practice in a setting of simplicity, warmth, and openness.
Hridaya Romania – Kamala Center
Kamala Center was founded in 1995 by Liviu Gheorghe and Simona Trandafir. From the very beginning, our center organized lectures and courses on traditional yoga, spirituality, natural therapies, and parapsychology; hosted the first yoga and astrology exhibition in Romania; opened the first natural-products shops in Brașov; and offered guidance and support in these fields — all in order to promote and support yoga practice and spiritual growth.
In the same year we founded Kamala Publishing House, which has published many valuable works on yoga — with the teachings of Ramakrishna, Anandamayi Ma, Ramana Maharshi, Nityananda, Buddha, and other masters — as well as on spirituality, natural therapies, and personal development.
In 2007, Kamala Center became Hridaya Romania – Kamala Center, co-founded by Liviu Gheorghe, Simona Trandafir, Sahajananda, Sebastian Teodor, and Veronica Godeanu. Since then, our fundamental teachings have been those of Hridaya Yoga — the Yoga of the Spiritual Heart (Atman).
In December 2007, Sahajananda held the first silent meditation retreat at our center. From 2009, the retreats have been offered under the Hridaya name. Since then we have offered them twice a year, alongside additional retreats led by the teachers of Hridaya Romania Kamala Center — so that meditation retreats have been an unbroken tradition here since 2007.
In 2015, Hridaya Romania held the 200-hour Hridaya Teacher Training Course in Romanian for the first time. We continue to offer this course every year, and in 2022 we added a 300-hour Hridaya Teacher Training Course.

A suggested packing list
Hridaya Yoga Kamala Center welcomes visitors all year round, each season with its own beauty. In our temperate climate, the average temperature in August is 21 °C — ideal for enjoying the surrounding nature. In winter, the average temperature in December is -1 °C, and there are mountain resorts nearby for skiing and other winter sports.
If you are coming to our center for a retreat or a seminar and would also like to visit some of the inspiring places nearby, we recommend bringing the following:
- Clothes for yoga and meditation. Whenever possible, we recommend breathable clothing made of natural fibers. Depending on your preferences, t-shirts, tank tops, yoga pants, leggings, tracksuit bottoms, and shorts are all suitable. You can wear a long-sleeved top or a sweater until your body warms up. Most important is to feel comfortable and to be able to move freely.
- A yoga mat (although the school has mats available, it is more hygienic to bring your own)
- A sarong or towel for the mat (if you use one of our mats, please cover it with your sarong or towel)
- A meditation cushion (we have cushions available if you do not have your own)
- Warm slippers for indoors in winter; flip-flops for summer
- Clothing: please come prepared with clothes suited to a region close to the mountains, including rain gear. In summer you will need light clothes and a shawl or sweater. For winter, bring warm clothes, a hat, gloves, thick socks, insulated shoes, and a winter jacket. Temperatures can drop to -15 °C or even lower, so please be prepared.
- A reusable water bottle and a thermos for tea
- Toiletries and medicines: personal medicines and hygiene products (shampoo, tampons, etc.)
- A notebook and a pen or pencil
- An electrical adapter, if needed (sockets are generally two-pin, non-polarized; bring adapters if you use devices with polarized two-pin or three-pin plugs)
- Hiking or running shoes, if you plan outdoor activities
- Cash for the shop at the center
- A travel alarm clock: if you are attending a silent meditation retreat and would rather not keep your phone in airplane mode, you can bring an alarm clock.
- Sunglasses
- Earplugs (for use during meditation)
